LoL Clash Explained

Clash is a particularly neat idea that seems to be, for now, pretty much exclusive to League of Legends.

It serves as an in-game tournament, although not in the same way that ranked does. Instead, it is a genuine, dedicated tournament with only a few places up for grabs and actual prizes being put on the line.

While it was introduced back in 2018, it needed to be sidelined due to technical issues. Thankfully, it seems that Riot has ironed out all of the creases, and the mode is performing as to be expected.

Every two weeks, eight five-player teams are going to compete in a three-round single-elimination tournament, with different brackets for the different skill levels of players.

The Clash system is incredibly well put together when compared to other similar creations within other Esports titles.

It features a genuine roster lock feature, in which every participating team must have their roster finalized before a specific time before the tournament starts.

After that, you get a brief scouting window. This is a phase unique to Clash in which you can see your opponent's stats, as well as their preferred champions. This allows you to prepare strategies ahead of time for your opponents, opening up a whole new layer of tactical gameplay for players of a high enough skill level.

Unlike, say, Gamebattles, Clash features an in-game team creation system. Captains can pick their team name, logo, and tag, and invite players to join as they see fit.

As your team places well in more and more tournaments, you unlock more logos and customization options for your team, giving you something genuine to win.

To participate in a tournament, your players need to have a ticket. These tickets cost 975 blue essence or 195 Riot points, and they are transferable between you and your friends.

You also have the option of spending 975 Riot points on a premium ticket, which is going to enhance the rewards that you receive.

The typical reward for Clash players is Victory Points. Over time, these points can be added up to unlock new logos for your team, or new banners within the Summoner's Rift.

At the end of your three games, you're also going to receive a reward based on whether or not you bought a standard or premium ticket.

Even low-ranking teams get XP boosts as rewards, and the higher ranks tend to receive skin shards as well as permanent skins for their champions.
