Why Is Dopa Not in LCS?

South Korea is a country where video games are common among young people, with a population that plays a lot and many organized competitions every year. However, cheating or creating cheat tools for video games is considered a crime and can send offenders up to 5 years in prison.

Jeong Sang-Gil, better known as Apdo or Dopa, is one of the most outstanding gamers in the Asian world. He managed to reach Rank 1 repeatedly with an exceptionally high win record on the Korean and Chinese scale. At first, he did not support deals from the companies because he would have obtained more from Elo-Boosting.

He carried on playing on many Smurf platforms. He streamed for various channels and developed a large fan base in China. After gaining a toehold in China, Apdo planned to play in the pro league. However, he has decided to reject it once and for all. Read on to discover more about Dopa.

Biography

In the Korean gaming platform, Dopa is widely regarded as a major-Elo professional. He can shine in many roles and play in the jungle, top, mid, and AD. However, he is mostly a mid-laner.

According to many gaming experts, Dopa is ranked as the second-best mid-laner in the world after Faker. However, others claim that he is the greatest player overall. He can succeed in four different positions when Faker is famous only for being a mid-laner. On the other hand, unlike Faker, Dopa never participated in an offline game.

Gaming Career

Dopa declined offers to start playing for pro teams because he made more revenue from Elo-boosting. However, he ultimately engaged in the OGN Winter 2013-2014 Qualifier with Team Dark. Sadly enough, the group was expelled from the competition due to lousy sportsmanship conduct.

His activity on the Elo-boosting was reported to Riot. Thus, his primary account had been suspended for 1,000 years, and he had been banned from competing in OGN.

Despite his lifetime ban, Apdo carried on playing smurf records and attained Challenger with an incredibly large win percentage. He broadcast on different channels, including YY TV. In September 2014, Apdo moved to China to earn a $162,000 cash prize in Challenger, which he was able to do in less than a month.

What is Elo Boosting?

Apdo was recognized worldwide as the best solo player. He repeatedly reached first place in the Korean and Chinese ranked ladder on several occasions. However, he never played competitively. The reason is simple: He confessed to earning more by boosting other players' accounts than by being a professional. That's why he was banned from the LCS and sanctioned by Riot Games.

Therefore, all his accounts, which he recently admitted to, are suspended. To open an account on the Korean server, you need a social security number, specific to each one, which you can get at birth from the bank. By banning Dopa's first account, his social security number has been suspended as well. So he plays with accounts in the names of his friends or acquaintances, but in Korea, playing on someone else's account is considered Elo boosting.

The Bottom Line

Dopa is widely seen as the greatest player to have ever played Twisted Fate and Kassadin. He is a gaming monster. However, he claimed he didn't mind the ban because he didn't have any intentions to go professional, and that boosting earned him more cash anyway.
